New York drivers are facing more tolls, more tickets, and more congestion pricing—yet the condition of our roads and bridges is only getting worse.
I’ve spent over a decade representing drivers in traffic court, and the same issue comes up again and again: people are paying into a system that feels broken. So I decided to dig into the numbers.
The findings are shocking.
🚧 43% of New York’s major roads are in poor or mediocre condition.
🌉 Nearly 10% of all bridges in the state are structurally deficient.
🚗 NYC traffic congestion cost drivers $9.5 billion in lost time last year.
🚑 EMS response times have jumped from 8.3 to 23.3 minutes for non-life-threatening calls.
This is no longer just about potholes or slow traffic—this is about public safety. These delays are affecting ambulances, fire trucks, and critical emergency response efforts.
The most frustrating part? All of this is happening while New Yorkers are paying more than ever through tolls, fines, and congestion pricing. So where is that money going?
I believe we need immediate transparency and accountability. That’s why I’m calling for:
Annual audits showing where transportation revenue is actually spent
Emergency repairs for high-risk roads and bridges
Traffic signal reform to reduce gridlock for emergency vehicles
A complete review of how congestion pricing is being enforced and measured
I’m proud to release this report to the public, the media, and policymakers who want real answers. It’s time to stop accepting the status quo.
Let’s raise our voices before another life is lost to bureaucracy, delay, or crumbling infrastructure.
